The Flushing Remonstrance to be Exhibited at the New York State Museum
The Flushing Remonstrance, the earliest known document in America arguing for religious freedom, will be on exhibit at the New York State Museum on Sunday, December 27 to commemorate the anniversary of its signing more than 350 years ago. Dated December 27, 1657, the Remonstrance is considered by historians to be the precursor of the first amendment of the Bill of Rights, guaranteeing Americans religious freedom. Van Gogh Museum Concludes 2009 Successfully with 1.45 Million Visitors
The Van Gogh Museum welcomed almost 1,450,000 visitors in 2009. This positive result is credited in part to the exhibitions Van Gogh and the colours of the night and Van Gogh’s letters: The artist speaks (which runs through 3 January 2010). Claremont Museum of Art to Discontinue Operation in The Packing House
On December 21, the Claremont Museum of Art Board of Directors voted to discontinue operation of the Museum in The Packing House and place the permanent collection in a secure storage facility. The board will continue working to rejuvenate the Claremont Museum of Art in the next few years as the economy improves. The Museum will be open 11:00 am to 5:00 pm for two final days on December 26 and 27. As you know, the Claremont Museum of Art nearly closed its doors in October. Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) Appoints Jen Mergel as Senior Curator of Contemporary Art
Malcolm Rogers, Ann and Graham Gund Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), has announced the appointment of Jen Mergel as the MFA’s Beal Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art. The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, announced a $12-million gift from Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel through the Mandel Supporting Foundations.
