Imperial War Museum Duxford Announces Breitling Wing Walkers to Perform at Flying Legends 2010

June 10, 2010 – 11:40 amNo Comment

The Fighter Collection and Imperial War Museum Duxford are delighted to announce that the Breitling Wing Walkers will take to the skies at Flying Legends (Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 July 2010) to perform a breathtaking sequence of formation loops and rolls, while daring wing walkers perform aerobatics on the wings.

The world’s only formation wing walking display team, Breitling Wing Walkers, is proud to unveil its new colours for 2010 – its first season sponsored by the prestigious watch brand Breitling.

Painted in their striking new Breitling livery, the beautiful 1940s Stearman biplanes will roar through the skies at speeds of up to 150 mph above Duxford, as the wing walkers climb around the aircraft and perform handstands against the wind pressure whilst waving to the crowd below!

For the impressive ‘Windrider’ pass, the daring Wing Walkers leave the safety of their static harness to sit on the leading edge of the top wing directly above the aircraft’s propeller as they soar above Duxford at 100 miles per hour!

Chief Pilot Martyn Carrington, said: “Precision timing is a crucial aspect of display flying, especially for the crossover passes.”

Flying Legends is without doubt one of the finest warbird air shows in the world, providing an unrivalled line-up of the classic propeller-driven combat aircraft from both the First and Second World Wars, many of which are now either rare or unique.

Legendary aircraft and superbly talented pilots come from across the globe to display at Flying Legends. Visitors can expect to see a wide range of iconic aircraft, including the P-51 Mustang, Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane and much more.

As in previous years, Flying Legends 2010 will undoubtedly provide a show-stopping performance, enabling visitors to see exceptional aircraft in breath-taking aerial displays in the skies above Duxford.

On the ground, there will be activities for all ages, including funfair rides, bungee trampolines, tank rides and demonstrations.
