Metropolitan Museum of Art Announces Fifth Avenue Renovation Plans

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has unveiled plans for a comprehensive redesign of the four-block-long outdoor plaza that runs in front of its landmark Fifth Avenue façade, from 80th to 84th Streets in Manhattan. Miami Art Museum Presents New Work Miami 2010

New Work Miami 2010, conceived as an exuberant salute to Miami’s artistic community, will provide a partial snapshot of the Miami art scene at this moment. Open through October 17, 2010.

Approximately 35 artists based in the Miami area will present new and recent artworks executed in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video, environmental installation and performance. The bulk of the exhibition will be presented in Miami Art Museum’s recently unified 5,000 sq. ft. Plaza Level Gallery, with numerous performances, events and screenings to be presented throughout the exhibition’s run.

The exhibition will include a rich roster of special performance events, artist talks and interactive programs throughout the course of the project. This is art. What is art to you? Bring a photograph of anything around Miami that you consider “art,” and receive free museum admission. Your photograph could become part of a compilation in the New Work Miami 2010 Visitors Gallery.

New Work Miami 2010 tabloid: Many of the artists are creating works for the exhibition that reach beyond the museum walls, including Gean Moreno and Ernesto Oroza, who have turned the exhibition’s gallery notes from a traditional museum brochure format to a tabloid newspaper that will be distributed at various public locations throughout the city. New Work Miami 2010 artists include: Maria José Arjona, Kevin Arrow, Beings, Jenny Brillhart, Felecia Chizuko Carlisle, Jim Drain, Flash orchestra, Frozen Music, Oscar Fuentes & the Gipsy Catz, Lynne Golob Gelfman, Michael Genovese, Jacin Giordano, Guerra de la Paz, Adler Guerrier, Jacuzzi Boys, Don Lambert, Gustavo Matamoros, Ana Mendez (with Aja Albertson & Richard Vergez), Beatriz Monteavaro, Gean Moreno/Ernesto Oroza, Peggy Nolan, Fabian Peña, Christina Pettersson, Poem Depot, Vickie Pierre, Manny Prieres, Bert Rodriguez, Christopher Stetser, Talking Head Transmitters, Robert Thiele, Mette Tommerup, Humberto Torres, Frances Trombly, Tatiana Vahan, Marcos Valella, Michael Vasquez, Viking Funeral and Michelle Weinberg.

Exhibition Organization and Support
New Work Miami 2010 is organized by Miami Art Museum and is supported by donations to MAM’s Annual Exhibition Fund, with additional support provided by Lin Lougheed. It is curated by Peter Boswell, assistant director for programs/senior curator, and René Morales, associate curator.
