The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has unveiled plans for a comprehensive redesign of the four-block-long outdoor plaza that runs in front of its landmark Fifth Avenue façade, from 80th to 84th Streets in Manhattan. Grand Rapids Museum ArtPrize Events

One of seven ArtPrize exhibition centers, the Grand Rapids Public Museum will host the largest professionally curated display in the city-wide competition.

The museum will have more than 70 artists inside the building and on the grounds, and anticipate housing several of the most talked about pieces in the contest.

September 21, 201 ArtPrize Preview Event (6:00 – 9:00 pm)
Museum members and donors will be invited to preview the ArtPrize collection and meet with the artists in attendance. Each artist will receive 4 complimentary event tickets to distribute to friends and family.

September 23, 2010 Museum Street Party (6:00 – 10:00 pm)
The street party will be free to attend and open to the public. A hospitality tent, games, and activities will be available on the Museum’s grounds, and guests will be able to tour our ArtPrize exhibition.

September 29, 2010 ArtPrize Young Professionals Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm)
This evening event will be co-hosted by thelocal United Way, and will be an opportunity for young professionals in Grand Rapids to network while enjoying our Art Prize exhibition.

ArtPrize is a radically open competition. Open to any artist in the world who can find space. Open to anybody in Grand Rapids, Michigan who wants to create a venue. Open to a vote from anyone who attends.

The Public Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan was founded by a group of civic leaders in 1854 as the Grand Rapids Lyceum of Natural History and in 1868 merged with the Grand Rapids Scientific Club to form the Kent Scientific Institute and Museum. Over the next century, the Museum established itself as a premier educational institution in the area, and continues in to fulfill this role for West Michigan today.
