Riverside Art Museum Opens Alan Disparte: InterNatural

September 9, 2010 – 6:31 amNo Comment

The Riverside Art Museum will present’ an exhibition; Alan Disparte: InterNatural on September 11, 2010, with a reception on September 10, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Alan Disparte comes from a long family line of farmers and was raised in the rural area of Redlands, California. Disparte works in a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, video, collage, and sculpture. He is inspired by ecological malleability and is interested in the coexistence and conflicts which occur when nature and culture intersect.

Using childlike objects and nostalgic color palettes, Disparte exposes the hidden angst beneath otherwise seductive surfaces. The sameness of urban sprawl has created an insatiable craving for the authenticity of the artist’s childhood. Disparte’s paintings and video reveal a nostalgia and yearning for history as he uses techniques that imply distress but also memory-making. Suspended organic shapes and symmetry in both human anatomy and the natural world explore the line between innocence and a fall from grace in an environment where even nature seems unfamiliar.

Disparte received his B.F.A. from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, and his M.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute. Disparte’s work has been exhibited in Southern California and extensively in San Francisco. His work has been published in Art Forum, Artweek, and the cover of Studio Visit Magazine. Disparte currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
