The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has unveiled plans for a comprehensive redesign of the four-block-long outdoor plaza that runs in front of its landmark Fifth Avenue façade, from 80th to 84th Streets in Manhattan. Where Do We Go From Here? Selections from La Colección Jumex is the first US show of this remarkable collection based in Mexico City.

This select assembly of works from the collection examines art as a cultural index and opened at Art Basel Miami to great fanfare. Where Do We Go From Here? open September 18, 2010 – January 30, 2011, is structured around four concepts in dialogue with one another: art about art; art and urban anthropology; text in art; and a series of succinct artist profiles. These conceptual clusters entertain issues posed by artists revisiting key moments in modernism, examining the city as a laboratory, and reflecting on the Pop legacy of text in art, as well as spotlighting artists whose contributions to the contemporary art scene have been significant.

The Contemporary Arts Center co-organized this exhibition with the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach and Fundación/Colección Jumex in Mexico City. Artists in the exhibition include: Donald Judd, Andy Warhol, Louise Lawler, Richard Pettibone, Jenny Holzer, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Minerva Cuevas, Daniel Guzmán, Damian Ortega, On Kawara, Jorge Mendez Blake, ‘Moris’ Israel Meza Moreno, Jack Pierson, Ed Ruscha, Paul McCarthy, Gabriel Orozco, and Ugo Rondinone. A new catalogue has been published in celebration of the exhibition.
