CVHM is participating in Smithsonian magazine’s sixth annual Museum Day. Museum Day is a one day nationwide event where participating museums and cultural institutions across the country offer free admission to Smithsonian magazine readers, Smithsonianmagazine.com visitors, and friends.

Free admission cards will be available in the September issue of Smithsonian magazine and at www.Smithsonianmagazine.com/museumday

The Chemung Valley History Museum is located at 415 East Water Street in the heart of downtown Elmira, New York. The museum is approximately 15 miles east of Corning, 30 miles south of Ithaca, and 55 miles west of Binghamton.

Rooted in a rich and diverse history, the Chemung County Historical Society will become the primary center of community expertise on local history and preservation and a catalyst for tourism and experiential education.

The Chemung County Historical Society seeks to deepen our audiences understanding of the past and the role of history in our futures. To achieve this the Society uses diverse and evolving collections to engage audiences through interactive and dynamic exhibits and educational programs, community outreach and partnerships, publications and research services. We believe these efforts will provide a better appreciation of our community and our place in state and national history.
