Walker Art Center Presents Dave Douglas & Keystone / Bill Morrison’s Spark of Being
Walker-Commissioned Work is a Monumental Jazz/Film Retelling of the Frankenstein Myth
Two master innovators–jazz trumpeter/composer Dave Douglas and experimental filmmaker Bill Morrison–collaborate on Spark of Being, a monumental retelling of the Frankenstein myth. The Grammy-nominated sextet Keystone combines electric jazz with turntables to accompany Morrison’s film collage of new, archival, and distressed footage. “Morrison works with discarded celluloid rather than old bones and dissecting room castoffs, but he’s long felt a creative kinship with Dr. Victor Frankenstein” (Mercury News). Douglas, “arguably the most prolific and original trumpeter/composer of his generation” (Amazon), has been a member of such celebrated ensembles as John Zorn’s Masada and has worked with the Trisha Brown Dance Company.
Dave Douglas & Keystone/Bill Morrison perform the Walker Art Center-commissioned Spark of Being on Thursday, October 7, at 8 pm in the William and Nadine McGuire Theater.
