Natural History Museum Presents Amazonia: Contemporary Art Exhibition

September 29, 2010 – 10:46 amNo Comment

The Natural History Museum will present an art exhibition by contemporary artists Lucy + Jorge Orta, open 6 October – 12 December 2010.

Artists Lucy + Jorge Orta travelled to the Peruvian Amazon rainforest in July 2009 to develop their ideas for this exhibition.

They assisted scientists on their rainforest expedition to collect data. They also drew on the Museum’s collections and expertise to produce these specially commissioned final artworks that include sculpture, photography and video. The artworks have never been seen before.

Lucy + Jorge Orta have collaborated since 1991. They have had solo exhibitions at the Barbican Art Gallery and ICA as well as the Modern Art Museum Paris and the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney. In 2007 they received the Green Leaf Award for artistic excellence with an environmental message.
