New Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art Opening

October 31, 2010 – 10:40 amNo Comment

The new Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art is opening on November 6, 2010.

The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum Of Art is a non-profit art museum and arts center located in Biloxi, Mississippi, dedicated to the ceramics of George E. Ohr, the self-proclamed “Mad Potter of Biloxi”.

The museum is named for ceramic artist George E. Ohr, as well as Annette O’Keefe, late wife of former Biloxi mayor Jeremiah O’Keefe, Sr., who has been instrumental in donating money and raising funds for the completion of the museum campus. The new five-building museum campus designed by architect Frank Gehry to “dance” with the ancient oak trees on the 4-acre (16,000 m2) site.

One building on the new campus, the Pleasant Reed Interpretive Center, is now open on the new campus with an exhibition open to the public Monday – Friday from 10 am – 4 pm. In the fall of 2010, three buildings on the east side of the campus will open with outstanding exhibitions, including an exhibition of George Ohr pottery from regional collections.
