November 28, 2010 – 9:27 amNo Comment

The Foundation Frieder Burda was established on 20 April 1998 as a foundation with legal capacity under the German Civil Code.

The purpose of the Foundation is to promote art, culture and science. This objective will be realized primarily by establishing and operating a modern art museum in which the art collection of the founder Frieder Burda will be presented to the general public. The new building of the Collection Frieder Burda is being constructed in the Lichtentaler Allee in Baden-Baden according to plans drawn up by the New York architect Richard Meier.

Until 6 March 2011 the Museum Frieder Burda is showing Duane Hanson and Gregory Crewdson: “Uncanny Realities“. The large format figures by Hanson enter a dialogue full of tension with the perfectly arranged photographies by Crewdson.

From 18 March 2011 to 15 May 2011 the “Collection Frieder Burda“ is at the center of attention. The prestigious international private collection comprises works from Picasso to Polke. During the last few years, Frieder Burda has collected more and more young artists. The Museum Frieder Burda presents parts of its founder’s collection, regularly exchanging positions.

The grand summer exhibition 2011 at the Museum Frieder Burda is dedicated to Neo Rauch.
From 28 May 2011 to 18 September 2011 more than 80 works from the past 20 years created by the artist from Leipzig will be shown. The art historian Werner Spies is the curator of the exhibition. Frieder Burda: “To me, Neo Rauch is a very important artist who treads new paths with his unique paintings. He sure is one of the most significant contemporary painters“.

From 30 September 2011 to January 2012 a comprehensive William N. Copley-retrospective is to be seen. Curated by Götz Adriani, approximately 70 works by the American artist, who died in 1996, will be presented. Most of the works are part of the artist’s estate and many of them will be publicly presented for the first time. The Collection Frieder Burda owns an extensive number of works by William N. Copley.
