Following the auction of the Crosby Garrett Roman helmet Tullie House are now ending the ‘Keep it in Cumbria Appeal’.

In the three weeks leading up to the auction Tullie House were able to raise £1.96 million.

Richard Speirs, Chairman of the Friends of Tullie House said:
“I have been amazed by the breathtaking response to the ‘Keep it in Cumbria Appeal’ and the huge support not just in Cumbria but nationally. The helmet has attracted significant global interest and it’s such a shame that it wasn’t protected by the Treasure Act. I would like to thank all those who pledged and donated towards the appeal and also thank the wonderful team at Tullie House who worked tirelessly to ensure the appeal was a success”.

The Crosby Garrett Helmet went for auction at Christie’s. Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery were represented at auction but with unprecedented global interest were unable to secure the helmet for Cumbria.
