Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) to Open in Hobart

MONA, Museum of Old and New Art opened to the public on January 22, 2011. It is Australia’s largest privately funded museum and houses antiquities, modern, and contemporary art from David Walsh’s private collection.

TIn addition to the Museum, the MONA site also has 8 accommodation pavilions, the Moorilla vineyard & winery – currently celebrating its 50th year, the Moo Brew Microbrewery, a library with over 4,500 titles, The Source Restaurant, two bars – the Wine Bar and the Void Bar, a Cellar Door, and a Museum Shop and Cafe.

-Each January, former Violent Femmes bassist, Brian Ritchie, curates MONA’s Festival of Music and Art – MOFO, which is held at various locations around Hobart, including MONA itself.

Open Wednesday – Monday. Closed Tuesdays and Christmas day. Open 10am – 5pm until September 30 2012, and 10am – 6pm following.
Entry $A20 for adults and $A15 for Concessions. Free for Tasmanian residents and under 18s.
