Kestnergesellschaft presents a solo exhibition of works by photographer David LaChapelle on view 5 february to 8 may 2011.

Since the 1990s and 2000s the American photographer David LaChapelle (*1964) has been well known for his bizarre tableaux of stars and starlets, primarily in photographic portraits and fashion photography, but also in music videos. His exuberantly trashy compositions always revealed a knowledge of art history and visual tradition. In the new photographic series that will be shown at the kestnergesellschaft the affinity to Christian iconography and the genre of the still life is formulated even more concretely, although LaChapelle never abandons his own visual language. David LaChapelle has shown solo exhibitions at the Kunst Haus in Vienna, at Stockholm’s Fotografiska Museet and elsewhere, and has taken part in numerous group shows, for example at the Brooklyn Museum or the Helmut Newton Foundation.
