Virginia Museum of Natural History Kite Festival

The Virginia Museum of Natural History, through the Martinsville-Henry County Community Nature Initiative, is hosting the Piedmont Kite Festival on Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jack Dalton Park in Henry County. The Piedmont Kite Festival is free of charge and allows children, youth and adults to bring their own kites to fly, view amazing demonstrations, and even create their own kite.

The Kite Festival allows for attendees to learn about the wonders of wind through playing flying games, viewing special demonstrations and kite competitions. Attendees are allowed the opportunity to make their own kites on a first come, first served basis. Kite competition materials are supplied and attendees can compete for prize awards.

The festival also has a special presentation by the Patrick Henry Patriots’ radio controlled airplanes display, live music from Kim and Jimbo Cary and face painting. Other exhibitors include SEMAA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Martinsville Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.

The rain date for the event is Saturday, March 19.

Free admission to the support is provided by the Harvest Foundation of the Piedmont. Sponsors of the festival are the Virginia Museum of Natural History, Henry County Parks and Recreation, and is additionally sponsored by Martinsville Parks and Recreation.
