ARTIST CHUCK CLOSE TO BE HONORED BY THE KATONAH MUSEUM OF ART
AT 2011 HIMMEL AWARD AND LECTURE

Established in 2009, the annual Katonah Museum Himmel Award & Lecture honors an outstanding leader who has invoked new thinking within the art community. This year, the Museum honors legendary artist Chuck Close, who is best-known for his larger-than-life photo-based portraiture using highly-inventive techniques to paint the human face. Following a wine reception in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden, the artist will present the 2011 Himmel Lecture.

Close received the National Medal of the Arts in 2000 and was recently appointed by President Barack Obama to serve on the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.

The Himmel Award is named in honor of KMA Trustee Emeritus Betty Himmel, an arts advocate and community leader who was instrumental in defining the mission and direction of the Katonah Museum of Art.
