Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) Working Artists Project Announces MICAH STANSELL / The Water and The Blood

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) Working Artists Project presents MICAH STANSELL/The Water and The Blood, the second in the series of 2010/2011 Working Artist Project exhibitions, on view August 27 – December 3, 2011. Opening Reception: August 26th, 6:30-8:30pm.

In addition to moving images and sound, the work includes a water component. The artist states: “This is a multi-channel video and sound installation with some very analogue elements of interactivity. My hope is that it is an experiential exhibition.” MOCA GA Director Annette Cone-Skelton added, “We are excited to see another Georgia artist benefit directly from the Working Artist Project award program. Micah Stansell’s work embodies what this program is about: giving much-needed aid to vital local artists and helping them realize their full potential.”

Micah Stansell is an artist and filmmaker living in College Park, Georgia. He received an MFA in Digital Filmmaking from Georgia State University. His work has screened in galleries and film festivals across the United States and as far away as Beijing, China. Stansell has also worked as a cinematographer with artists on projects and installations that have been exhibited locally and internationally.

The Working Artist Project is an award program that was developed by The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia and funded with a major grant from The Charles Loridans Foundation with additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Project was designed to support established visual artists of merit who reside in the Atlanta metropolitan area. This initiative provides an unparalleled level of support for individual artists, expands the Museum’s mission, and promotes Atlanta as a city where artists can live, work, and thrive. Each year, MOCA GA selects three visual artists to receive the Award. Among the city’s best and brightest, these artists are supported with an exhibition, promotion, a studio assistant, and a major stipend to create work over the course of the year.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) collects and archives significant, contemporary works by the artists of the state of Georgia. To place its artists in a broader context, the Museum’s exhibitions include Georgia artists and artists from around the world. MOCA GA’s programs promote the visual arts by creating a forum for active interchange between artists and the community.

MOCA GA is located at 75 Bennett Street in the TULA Art Center. Admission is free to members, $5 for non- members and $1 for students.
