Trompe L’oeil: 2011 Renaissance Society Gala & Benefit Art Auction

THE RENAISSANCE SOCIETY HOSTS ITS ANNUAL GALA AND BENEFIT AUCTION: TROMPE L’OEIL – September 10, 2011

CHICAGO – The Renaissance Society proudly announces TROMPE L’OEIL, its annual gala and benefit auction to be held Saturday, September 10, 6:30 – midnight at GeoLofts, 3636 South Iron Street.

The evening entertainment will include cocktails, a seated dinner, and an auction of cutting-edge art from leading international galleries. Tickets to the gala begin at $400 per person, with Sponsor ($500), Patron ($1,000), and Benefactor ($2,500) tickets available.

The auction consists of over seventy works by some of today’s most compelling artists represented by the world’s leading galleries. Artists include Darren Almond, Ei Arakawa, Monika Baer, Miriam Cahn, Claire Fontaine, Todd Gray, Mark Handforth, Michael Krebber, Eileen Quinlan, Josef Strau, Wolfgang Tillmans, Danh Vo, and many others.

A preview exhibition for the auction will be held on-line at www.renaissancesociety.org beginning August 15. Advance bids on auction items will be accepted.

TROMPE L’OEIL is organized by volunteer members of the Board of Directors of The Renaissance Society, as well as friends from the community of contemporary art supporters. Richard Massey and Carolina Bilboa, members of the museum’s International Committee, are this year’s gala co-chairs. Richard Wright of WRIGHT auction house will be the auctioneer.

There will be an after-party featuring New York DJ Lee Douglas (DFA), from 10 PM – midnight.

The Renaissance Society, founded in 1915, is widely acclaimed here and abroad as one of the premier museums for leading edge contemporary art in the United States. Through the commissioning and production of new works and a provocative mix of exhibitions, publications, lectures, readings, concerts, screenings and performances, it celebrates the art of the moment in all its complexity and diversity.
