Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum Announces Brimming Tide Paintings and Drawings by Brian Rutenberg

August 26, 2011 – 10:24 amNo Comment

The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum presents Brimming Tide: Paintings and Drawings by Brian Rutenberg an exhibition on view September 16, 2011 – January 8, 2012.

Myrtle Beach native son Brian Rutenberg returns to his roots with his stunning exhibition of oil paintings and drawings. As a young and ambitious painter, he sought to capture a unique representation of the landscape through abstraction. The base of his interest stems from growing up along the South Carolina coast, where the river and lake eventually merge with ocean. These early childhood memories continue to be a presence in his painting.

Inspired by artists like Gregory Amenoff, Joan Mitchell and Hans Hofmann, Brian Rutenberg executes paintings that embrace spirituality, fascination with color and an obvious love of paint. Although nature continues to be the major theme in his paintings, each of his works shows a brand new approach and vision.

This exhibition is curated by the Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, NC.
