National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library Presents Personal Stories Behind the Iron Curtain

Personal stories provide significant insights into particular times and places. The tales of those who lived under Communism in Czechoslovakia range from inspiring to heartbreaking. On Tuesday, Nov. 8, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library will present the video-taped personal stories of those who left their native Czechoslovakia during the Communist era.

Beginning at 7 p.m. in Room A of Iowa City Public Library, Rosie Johnston and Dave Muhlena will show video interview excerpts which present some of the everyday realities of life in a Communist state. The program, entitled Life Behind the Iron Curtain from a Czech & Slovak Perspective, will be moderated by Prague native Jitka Šonková, Ph.D., lecturer of Czech at the University of Iowa.

The presentation is co-sponsored by the Iowa City Civil Rights Commission and made possible by a grant from Humanities Iowa, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. For more information, contact the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library at 319-362-8500 or visit www.ncsml.org
