Kathy Winkler has spent many hours observing and even studying the animals that become the subjects of her paintings.

It’s that attention to detail that helps Winkler so effectively introduce those animals to the people who view her artwork. “Capturing the Spirit” is a major collection of animal paintings by Winkler that is on display through Dec. 4.

The show features 30 paintings that range in size from 18×18 to 30×40. It contains both giclees of original art work and original art work in acrylic – both on canvas. Several different breeds of cattle are featured, including cattle at the Farm & Ranch Museum, as well as horses, buffalo and sheep.

“When I paint, I attempt to create a connection between these beautiful animals and their human observers,” Winkler said. “Animals are far more complex and intelligent than many people believe.”
