The chief emphasis is on German and French painting, which is represented with key works of modern art history by Manet, Renoir, Monet, Picasso, Marc, Kirchner, Beckmann and others. The world-renowned masterpieces of Realism, Impressionism, Symbolism and Expressionism are moreover complemented by a wealth of surprising departures from the usual canon.
