Boca Raton Museum of Art Presents URS FISCHER: Pineapple/Melon

December 13, 2011 – 9:55 amNo Comment

The Boca Raton Museum of Art presents URS FISCHER: Pineapple/Melon in an ongoing exhibition.

URS FISCHER (Swiss, 1973- ), Pineapple/Melon, 2010, sponge and chair silkscreen prints on mirror-polished stainless steel, 4 parts (sponge, each: 55 1/8 x 39 5/8 x 52 inches; chair, each 46 7/8 x 26 3/8 x 52 inches). Long-term loan courtesy of Francis and Rosa Feeney

Urs Fischer’s tableau of mirrored boxes is a walk-through still-life in which the perception of reality and illusion become blurred through multiple reflections. Pineapple/Melon (2010) consists of four chrome-steel boxes screen printed with high-resolution images showing five views (front, back, sides and top) of a sponge and a chair. “I’m interested in collisions of things,” Fischer told The New Yorker in 2009, “and how objects relate to each other.” Born in Switzerland in 1973, Fischer has had solo exhibitions throughout Europe including at the Kunsthaus Zürich, Switzerland (2004); the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2004); the Venice Biennale in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2011; and the New Museum, New York City (2009–2010) where more than 30 “mirrored boxes” filled an entire floor.

Pineapple/Melon is on loan from the collection of Francis and Rosa Feeney – www.bocamuseum.org
