Fashion Moda (1978–1993) a not-for-profit art gallery in the South Bronx was an interactive space where collaborations, performances, art shows and film screenings took place.

Founded by artist Stefan Eins, Fashion Moda was a non-exclusive creative environment frequented by both South Bronx and downtown New York artists, many of whom were part of the artist collective, Collaborative Projects, Inc. (Colab).

In 1982 Eins and artist Jenny Holzer organized three temporary stores selling artist-made multiples at documenta 7, the modern and contemporary art exhibition held in Kassel, Germany. Reflecting Fashion Moda’s democratic approach toward art-making, the objects in the stores were sold for between fifty cents and two hundred dollars, and ranged from wearable to sculptural pieces. The stores facilitated the wide distribution of work by over thirty artists. Counter to the exclusivity of the main exhibition, the stores also functioned as a critique of documenta and of the art market in general.

The Fashion Moda Stores, 1982: Selections from documenta 7 features an array of wearable and sculptural objects created by over fifteen artists that were sold in the Fashion Moda stores at documenta 7.

The exhibition is curated by Gabi Lewton-Leopold, a Neuberger Museum of Art Curatorial Fellow and graduate student in the MA Program in Modern and Contemporary Art, Criticism, and Theory at Purchase College under the supervision of Tracy Fitzpatrick, Neuberger Curator and Associate Professor of Art History at Purchase College.
