Andy Warhol Museum appoints Nicholas Chambers as the Milton Fine Curator of Art

The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh has appointed Nicholas Chambers as the Milton Fine Curator of Art. Chambers, a native of Australia, most recently served as curator of contemporary international art at the Queensland Art Gallery – Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia. Chambers assumes his duties at The Warhol in late April.

Chambers holds Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Sydney. In 2005, he served as a visiting guest fellow at the Yale Center for British Art. Chambers has worked across a diverse range of exhibition platforms, from the artist-run initiatives to university galleries and major public art museums. In 2007, he was a lead curator on a large survey exhibition of the work of Andy Warhol, staged by the Queensland Art Gallery in collaboration with The Andy Warhol Museum.

“The Warhol is incredibly fortunate to welcome Nicholas Chambers into our family. Not only is he a deeply talented curator with a far-sweeping world view, but his international background, keen intellect, and affable personality will add to Pittsburgh’s ever-growing arts scene in countless ways. We are thrilled that Nicholas will join us at a critical juncture,” commented Eric C. Shiner, director of The Warhol, “and I for one know that we are in the most capable of hands.”

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining The Warhol. The museum has an extraordinary history of exhibitions, both in Pittsburgh and abroad, as well as terrifically exciting vision for the future which I feel privileged to be part of,” said Chambers. “I look forward to working with Eric Shiner and The Warhol’s team to bring ambitious new projects to the museum that reflect Warhol’s phenomenal influence on contemporary international art practice. I am also trilled to be moving to Pittsburgh and to have the opportunity to participate in the city’s rich cultural life.”

The addition of Chambers to The Warhol staff was made possible thanks to a $1.5 million gift from The Fine Foundation in September 2007. The Fine Foundation is led by Carnegie Museums Trustee Emeritus Milton Fine who has been associated with the Carnegie Museums for more than 25 years including serving on The Warhol’s board as well as sitting on The Warhol founding committee.

Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the place of Andy Warhol’s birth, The Warhol is one of the most comprehensive single-artist museums in the world. The Andy Warhol Museum is one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. Additional information about The Warhol is available at www.warhol.org
