Contemporary Arts Center presents the Gruff Rhys Investigative

Welsh musician Gruff Rhys has announced his second investigative concert tour of the Americas. The Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati on August 9th is the ONLY STOP IN THE REGION. Tickets on sale now.

Rhys gained world-wide fame in the 1990s as frontman for the band Super Furry Animals and more recently with Neon Neon—a project with Boom Bip (originally from Cincinnati). As a solo artist he has collaborated with artists ranging from De La Soul and Gorillaz to Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse.

Rhys’ first investigative concert tour—a journey through South America in search of his long lost, guitar-playing, poncho-wearing uncle, Rene Griffiths—was captured in the 2010 documentary film “Separado!” In his review, Steve Rose, film critic for The Guardian, wrote “Someone ought to give Gruff Rhys a travel show. The Super Furry Animals singer is gentle, sincere and modestly eccentric, and those qualities all rub off on this charming outsider travelogue.”

For his second tour, Gruff will seek out the final resting place of John Evans, a distant relative who left Wales in 1792 on a quest to find a mythical tribe of Welsh speaking Native Americans. Gruff will follow Evans’ path using a combination of film, written word, photo-story, social media and song.

The performance at the Contemporary Arts Center is part of the journey and will be documented for the new investigative road movie and album!

You can join Gruff in securing John Evans rightful place in American history:
Gruff urges anyone with clues regarding Evans’s unknown burial place; imaginary volcanos; wandering tribes of Welsh Speakers, or lingering river reptiles to come to the shows, where their help with his investigations will be appreciated and featured in the movie.

The Contemporary Arts Center is located in the Lois & Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art / 44 East 6th Street, Cincinnati, Ohio / 513.345.8400 www.contemporaryartscenter.org
