Maria Nepomuceno Turner Contempory

The second artist commission for Turner Contempory’s Sunley Gallery is Tempo para Respirar (Breathing Time) by Brazilian artist Maria Nepomuceno.

This new work, Nepomucenos most ambitious to date, brings the energy and colour of Brazil, with its many cultures, colourful carnivals, and dramatic rainforests, into this inspiring space that overlooks Margate seafront.

Nepomuceno uses traditional Brazilian craft techniques, weaving straw, stringing and piling beads, and sewing brightly-coloured ropes into draping coils and flower-like forms. She also incorporates ceramics and shiny over-sized beads. www.turnercontemporary.org
