Cincinnati is the second location to feature this one-of-a-kind exhibition.

On October 26, 2012 at 10:00 A.M., media and camera crews are invited to an exclusive preview at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center of their newest exhibition, Women Hold Up Half the Sky. The exhibition is inspired by the #1 New York Times best-selling book, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

National Underground Railroad Freedom Center presents Women Hold Up Half the Sky. The exhibition was organized by the Skirball Cultural Center and debuted in Los Angeles in October 2011.

Women Hold Up Half the Sky is an exhibition that tells stories of women from around the globe who have changed their lives through education, economics, and self-determination. The exhibition exposes three core themes; maternal health, human trafficking and economic empowerment to fight gender-based violence.

The NURFC embraces and celebrates stories of everyday freedom’s heroes from the time of Underground Railroad to modern times. This exhibition features the everyday freedom’s heroes that are effecting change in their own lives and for the lives of their children, families, communities and nations.

Women Hold Up Half the Sky is a one-of-a-kind wake up call to the injustices perpetrated against women worldwide and the ways to effect change. Compelling stories, documentary photographs, visual and audio installations illuminate how women are leading the way in redressing chronic injustice and abuse. Interactive gallery experiences and programs include direct opportunities for advocacy. NURFC will present a robust schedule of programs, films, artistic experiences, gallery talks and dialogue sessions to inspire and demonstrate how individuals can be part of workable solution and respond to this uplifting call to action.
