Glasgow-based artist Karla Black created two sculptures for the Dallas Museum of Art, her first such project in the United States, in the Hoffman Galleries and the South Concourse. Transforming light, fragile, often impermanent materials into powerful sculptures of commanding scale and presence, Black creates abstract works that resolutely eschew metaphor while simultaneously beckoning a complex series of associations.

Karla Black: Concentrations 55 is an expanded presentation of Concentrations, a special DMA series of project-based solo exhibitions by international emerging artists. The series began in 1981 as part of the Dallas Museum of Art’s commitment to the work of living artists, with the goal of making the work of contemporary artists accessible to our audiences while preserving the excitement of the work. The exhibition is accompanied by a full-color, illustrated brochure with an essay by exhibition curator Jeffrey Grove, The Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art. – www.dallasmuseumofart.org
