Brandywine River Museum announces Explore Art and American Life in the American Icons Lecture Series

Brandywine River Museum presents Explore Art and American Life in the “American Icons” Lecture Series, n in-depth exploration of five iconic works of art at the Brandywine River Museum on Fridays at 10 a.m. from February 1 to March 1.

This fascinating, five-part lecture series will provide a college-level introduction to American art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the context of the evolution of American culture and national identity.

Alexander Gardner’s Home of a Rebel Sharp Shooter (1863) on February 1,

Thomas Eakins’s The Gross Clinic (1875) on February 8,

Grant Wood’s American Gothic (1930) on February 15,

Walker Evans’s Sharecropper’s Daughter, Hale County Alabama (1936) on February 22, and

Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World (1948) on March 1.

Tickets for the series are $50 for adults and $40 for members and include museum admission. Reservations can be made online or by phone at 610-388-8326. Tickets for individual lectures are $15 for adults, $12 for members and may be purchased at the museum on the day of the program. In the event of a weather cancellation, the scheduled lecture will be moved to the following week.

The Brandywine River Museum is located on U.S. Route 1 in Chadds Ford, PA. The museum is open daily, except Christmas Day, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults; $8 for seniors, $6 for students and children ages 6 to 12; and free for members and children under six. Museum admission is free on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to noon from January 13 through November 24 (except during the Antiques Show on Memorial Day weekend).
