(Doylestown, PA) The James A. Michener Art Museum was one of the six featured stops on the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s (PHS) Bucks County Garden Visits on Sunday, September 7 from noon – 5:00 pm. PHS members and their guests enjoyed a self-guided tour among the magnificent sculptures on the grounds of the Museum, located at 138 South Pine Street, Doylestown, Pa.

A special attraction on the tour was Out of This World: Works by Steve Tobin, whose work was featured at the ARTiculture themed Philadelphia Flower Show this year. The exhibition at the Michener highlights a selection of Tobin’s monumental Steelroots sculptures, whimsical Syntax constructions, and intricate Forest Floors from his Earth Bronzes series. These works grace the outdoor sculpture gardens, in harmony with works by Isaac Witkin, Greg Wyatt, Raymond Granville Barger and George Anthonisen that are on long-term display. Visitors were also able to see an interpretation of a cell from the 1884 Bucks County Jail, which helps tell the story of how the jail became a fine arts destination in Bucks County. They also had the opportunity to walk the Museum’s popular Community Labyrinth.

“Members of PHS and other visitors to the 2014 Philadelphia Flower Show had the opportunity to see Tobin’s work at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. When we learned that his work would be exhibited at the Michener Art Museum, we knew we had to include a stop at the Museum to see more of the artist’s amazing work and other parts of the Michener’s collections,” said PHS President, Drew Becher.

Out of This World: Works by Steve Tobin is on view through October 26, 2014. To learn more about the James A. Michener Art Museum visit MichenerArtMuseum.org.
