Everyone’s gone a little batty but you’ll soon learn, that’s not such a bad thing. Join us for BatFest as experts from across the region tell us more about the important roles bats play in our ecosystem. From pollination to pest control, bats help keep our communities in balance and thriving. Taste a variety a fruits from around the world pollinated by bats and see how bat-brained you are during our bat-themed quiz show.

Experts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will share how they’re working to protect the places where bats live. You can also watch our resident colony of Big Brown Bats in action during Bat Flight. ECHO Bats, Inc. will also give you an opportunity to see bats up close and tell you more about White Nose Syndrome, a fungal growth that has killed millions of bats.

If you don’t typically look up at our Rotunda when you walk into the building, be sure to during BatFest. Dangling from 106 feet above the marble floor will be members from the Greater Cincinnati Grotto, demonstrating skillful rope techniques. If heights aren’t your thing, no worries. You can still go spelunking through over 500 feet of narrow passageways in our reproduction of a limestone cave in the Museum of Natural History & Science.

Come in costume for fun Halloween activities
Even though it’s BatFest, that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about Halloween. Come in costume to take part in our costume parade as you march through the museums and the Rotunda. Forgot your costume? No problem! We’ll help you create your very own mask that you can show off during the parade. Or you can opt to get your face painted and go as your favorite animal. After the parade, be sure to stop by the Monster Mash Dance Party in the Duke Energy Children’s Museum for a howling good time.
