Cincinnati Museum Center announces LEGO Design and Build contests

CINCINNATI – Calling all LEGO® lovers and builders! Cincinnati Museum Center is hosting monthly Design and Build contests for builders ages 5 and up as part of The Art of the Brick exhibit. Contest winners will be chosen from four age groups and will have an opportunity to have their artwork displayed at Cincinnati Museum Center. Submissions for the October Design and Build Superhero Challenge are due October 12.

Art of the BrickThe contest is simple: design and build a piece made entirely of LEGO bricks that is no larger than 15 inches by 15 inches and no taller than 12 inches. The piece must tie into the theme of that month’s Design and Build, which will be announced roughly one month before entries are due. Your only limitation is your own imagination!

Each month will have a different theme for the Design and Build contest during the run of The Art of the Brick . Builders will be divided into four age groups: 5 – 9 years old, 10 – 14 years old, 15 – 18 years old and 19 years old and older. The winner from each age group will have his or her artwork displayed in Brickopolis, Cincinnati Museum Center’s unique interactive companion gallery to The Art of the Brick.

The Art of the Brick, opening October 23, showcases over 100 works of art made entirely of LEGO bricks. The exhibit inspires creativity by challenging you to reimagine a toy as a building block that can unleash the full breadth of your imagination. With so many impressive works of art on display and the level of creativity they’re sure to inspire, a Design and Build contest provides the perfect outlet for those pent up masterpieces.

“The power of LEGO bricks are their versatility,” says Elizabeth Pierce, president and CEO of Cincinnati Museum Center. “They can become anything in the hands of someone who has an active mind and eager imagination. We want to give people an opportunity to let that creativity shine through these Design and Build contests and to display that artwork to inspire others.”

All prospective builders must submit up to three photos of their creation through an online form, along with a 50 word description of the piece. Once winners are chosen, contestants must bring their creations to Cincinnati Museum Center one week before they go on display. The winning artwork will be on display through the run of The Art of the Brick, October 23, 2015 through May 1, 2016.
