The Harvard graduate became the second African-American woman in space, having served onboard space shuttle missions STS-121 in 2006, STS-120 in 2007 and STS-131 in 2010. During her last two missions she was the primary robotic arm operator supporting spacewalks and for directing the “Leonardo” module in and out of the shuttle’s cargo bay. Wilson has logged more than 42 days in space. In 2015 she received Harvard’s Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Wilson is also the featured guest at the Museum’s Feb. 6 annual Michael P. Anderson Memorial Aerospace Program, that gives underserved children of color from throughout Washington the chance to participate in the Museum’s educational programs rooted in aerospace. The 2 p.m. presentation is free with admission to the Museum.
