Pulitzer Prize-Winning Novelist Marilynne Robinson to To Speak at Freedom Center

CINCINNATI, OH – The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center invite the media to attend Pulitzer Prize-winning author Marilynne Robinson’s lecture on her award-winning novel Gilead: A Novel on March 16 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 and available for purchase online at freedomcenter.org. Robinson’s lecture will be the last lecture in the 2015-2016 John and Francie Pepper Freedom Lecture Series—a series connecting the public with award-winning authors, historians and thought-leaders, discussing themes on history, race, culture, and modern abolition.

Gilead: A Novel chronicles the story of Reverend John Ames, who, at the end of his life, seeks to leave a written record of their family history to his young son. His recounting of personal history, which takes place over the course of three generations, from the Civil War to the Twentieth Century, also intertwines the internal and spiritual battles faced over America’s most controversial issues that still bring outrage to America’s heart today. The novel reveals the human condition and the often unbearable beauty of an ordinary life, which is a common theme in many of her works.
