National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Hosts A Promise Deferred Is A Promise Denied

CINCINNATI, OH – The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will host A Promise Deferred Is A Promise Denied, a community conversation with Cincinnati Preschool Promise examining access to education and its lasting impact in the community. The program will take place Wednesday, August 31 at 7:00 p.m. This event, presented in partnership with Delta Sigma Theta Cincinnati Queen City Alumnae Chapter and the Wesley Education Center for Children and Families, is free and open to the public. Registration is recommended as seating is limited.

A Promise Deferred Is A Promise Denied will be moderated by Karen O. Henry, Assistant Director of Academics at University of Cincinnati, and features a panel of experts and authors in early education including, Dr. Cleaster Whitehurst-Mims, CEO of the Cleaster Mims College Prep and International Boarding Schools and author of “One Peanut at a Time”; Stephanie Byrd, Executive Director, Success by 6 at United Way of Greater Cincinnati; DeAnna Lane, Director of Outside Services for Cincinnati Early Learning Center; Greg Landsman, Strategic Advisor for the Cincinnati Preschool Promise and Every Child Capital; and Cheryl Broadnax of Cincinnati Public Schools.

“We are proud to present A Promise Deferred Is A Promise Denied with Cincinnati Preschool Promise,” says Dr. Michael Battle, executive vice president and provost of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “This meaningful conversation will educate the community on the current state of our early childhood education programs and how we can ensure that all of our children, no matter their station in life, have access to early childhood development—a crucial element that determines their continued success throughout the entirety of their education.”
