Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum summer camps begin June 25

Beginning June 25 and continuing through Aug. 17, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., is offering its week-long, half- and full-day summer camps. In age-appropriate Chesapeake-themed sessions for ages 4-15, campers will explore the magic of the Chesapeake Bay’s people, animals, and environment, with an emphasis on creating a fun, hands-on learning environment that includes on-the-water and environmental activities, stories, games, crafts, and other creative projects.

CBMM’s summer camps for children 4-6 years old are offered during the weeks of June 25, July 2, July 9, July 23, July 30, and Aug. 6. Camps for children entering grades one-three are offered the weeks of July 2, July 16, July 30, and Aug. 13. Camps for children entering grades four-six are offered the weeks of July 16, Aug. 6, and Aug. 13.

Additionally, two weeks of camp are being offered for students through a collaboration between CBMM’s Rising Tide Program and the Sultana Education Foundation. During the weeks of July 9 (for grades six-nine) and Aug. 6 (for grades four-six), campers in the Build it. Boat it. Summer Camp will spend part of their day working on a project in the shipyard, and then head out on a paddling adventure with Sultana staff members.

Camps take place from 9am-noon for children ages 4-6, and 9am-3pm for those entering grades one-nine, with campers exploring CBMM’s 18-acre campus and numerous exhibition buildings as part of the program.

Each session is limited to a maximum of 12 children; summer camp cost varies for each program, with scholarships available and a 20 percent discount on tuition for CBMM members.
