National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Announces Summer Sunday Hours

CINCINNATI, OH – The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center announced today that it will be open on Sundays throughout the summer, Noon to 5:00 p.m., beginning May 27. The museum will also be open to the public on Memorial Day from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Additional summer Sunday hours provide opportunities for the general public to visit the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and explore special exhibitions, including Confederate Currency: The Color of Money, sponsored by BB&T and Confederate Memory: Symbolism, Controversy and Legacy. Confederate Currency investigates the significance of slavery in the economy of the South. The exhibit displays images placed in a juxtaposition of framed confederate bank notes and acrylic paintings influenced by the currency etchings portraying slavery. Confederate Memory examines historical memory and the lasting legacy of the Confederacy, addressing revisionist history and the national Confederate symbols debate. Guests can also see The Rosa Parks Experience and the Open Your Mind: Understanding Implicit Bias Learning Lab as well as other exhibits and programs.

“What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon after church or brunch than taking in a powerful museum experience?” says Dion Brown, president of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “Extended hours demonstrate our commitment to delivering our mission as we strive to be as accessible to guests as much as possible throughout the travel season.”
