National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Announces New Operating Hours

CINCINNATI, OH. – The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center announced new operational hours starting July 1, 2018. The new hours of operation are Sunday – Monday: Noon – 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday – Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The museum will be closed on Mondays, October – February.

“I can’t think of a better day to make this announcement. Juneteenth is cause for celebration,” says Dion Brown, President of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “On this Freedom Day we are proud to say that we are making this great institution even more accessible to the public, locals and tourists, alike. Our doors are open and welcome all.”

Expanding operating hours provides additional opportunities for the general public to visit and experience Confederate Currency: The Color of Money sponsored by BB&T and Confederate Memory: Symbolism, Controversy & Legacy this summer. Confederate Currency investigates the significance of slavery in the economy of the South. The exhibit displays images placed in a juxtaposition of framed Confederate bank notes and acrylic paintings influenced by the currency etchings portraying slavery. Confederate Memory examines historical memory and the lasting legacy of the Confederacy, addressing revisionist history and the national Confederate symbols debate. Both exhibits close July 13.

In addition to the museum’s special exhibitions, guests can also immerse themselves in The Rosa Parks Experience – via a virtual reality headset – and explore the Open Your Mind: Understanding Implicit Bias Learning Lab.
