Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum announces build-your-own paddle workshops

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is hosting two build-your-own paddle workshops this fall for woodworkers, kayakers and stand-up paddle boarders.

On Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 22 & 23, participants will join CBMM Shipyard Program Manager Jenn Kuhn and volunteer John Aiken to construct their own cedar Greenland paddle, which is perfect for longer kayak trips, and known for ease of use through its simple and light design.

On Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 20 & 21, participants in CBMM’s Stand-Up Paddle Workshop will learn basic paddle construction, including bent shaft laminating and shaping skills. Each participant will go home with their own stand-up paddle.

All materials and basic tools will be provided for both workshops, which take place in CBMM’s boatshop from 9-4 pm each day. The cost for each workshop is $200 per participant, with a 20% discount for CBMM members.

Participation is limited, with advanced registration at cbmm.org/greenlandpaddle or cbmm.org/standuppaddle
