Music at the Michener Strikes a Chord with Presenting Sponsor NJM Insurance Group for Michener Art Museum Concert Series

DOYLESTOWN, PA – The Michener Art Museum sings its praise to NJM Insurance Group (NJM) for being the Presenting Sponsor for Music at the Michener. With nearly 20 different musical offerings presented each year, ranging from opera to bluegrass to rock and roll, Music at the Michener offers something for every listener. Tickets to these events are continuously in high demand, often resulting in sold-out performances. The Michener’s alliance with NJM will help ensure Music at the Michener remains one of the cornerstones of the Museum’s programming calendar.

Music has been an integral part of the Bucks County artistic landscape ever since Oscar Hammerstein relocated to Doylestown to escape the bustle of life in New York. It was on his Highland Farm estate in Doylestown that the famed librettist wrote some of his most-loved work: Oklahoma!, South Pacific, The King and I, Flower Drum Song, and The Sound of Music, to name just a few. It was in Doylestown that he collaborated with Richard Rodgers, mentored a young Stephen Sondheim, and mingled with his close friend, James A. Michener.

“It was James Michener’s deep and abiding love of the arts—creative, performing, visual, as well as written—that led him to help establish the eponymous institution, the Michener Art Museum,” states Laurie McGahey, Michener Art Museum Deputy Director. “We strive to honor this legacy by showcasing notable talent and engaging community through Music at the Michener and we are forever grateful to generous donors like NJM Insurance Group.”

“NJM is proud to support the many communities we are privileged to serve, which includes the Bucks County region,” said Tracy McManimon, NJM senior vice president and chief underwriting officer. “We are thrilled for the chance to support the Michener Art Museum for a program as beloved and diverse as Music at the Michener.”

The wildly popular Jazz Night Concert Series has been presented at the Michener since 1996. Featuring world renowned musicians, the series includes performances by artists whose musical styles range across the jazz genre. Sunday Afternoon Music at the Michener delights crowds with gospel, opera, and everything in between. With content that often connects to the Museum’s exhibition program or broader themes within the collection, these concerts feature a wide range of musical styles that appeal to a diverse audience, while expanding the listener’s musical horizons. The Summer Concert Series is one of the Museum’s most popular programs. Audiences relish the laid-back summer vibe of great reggae and calypso music, the magical energy of gypsy jazz, and the delights of the Great American Songbook. Friday Night Band Jam brings the lively sounds of rock and roll, blues, folk, bluegrass and more to the Michener. These electrifying performers bring fresh energy to the Michener’s Edgar N. Putman Event Pavilion—as well as their own fan bases with frequently sold-out concerts.

Music at the Michener is presented by NJM Insurance Group. Jazz Series is generously supported by the Friends of Jazz Night, Frank and Jeanette Gallagher, and Leda and Michael Molly. Sunday Afternoon Music at the Michener is sponsored by Worth & Company, Inc., and Barbara Donnelly Bentivoglio and Dr. Lamberto Bentivoglio.
