		<description><![CDATA[<p>Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s (CBMM) Chief Curator Pete Lesher will be participating as a panelist at the 9th National Maritime Heritage Conference, to be held in Baltimore September 15–19.
The focus of the conference is “The Maritime Nexus: Re-connecting Landsmen with Their Seagoing Heritage.” The conference is sponsored by the National Maritime Historical Society, Naval Historical Foundation, Historic Ships of Baltimore and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.

		<description><![CDATA[<p>On September 1, 2010 the African American Civil War Museum celebrated the beginning of construction on the permanent home for the museum. The ceremony on the grounds of the Grimke Building, 1925 Vermont Ave. NW, began at 9 am and featured representatives from the community, the government and the board of directors. The architect builders and curators were on hand to present displays outlining what the new home for the African American Civil War Museum will look like.

		<description><![CDATA[<p>9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni announced the arrival and planting of the first trees on the Memorial Plaza at the World Trade Center site.
The Swamp White Oak (Quercus bicolor) trees planted are the first of approximately 400 planned for the Memorial Plaza, which features a complex soil supported paving surface and a unique cistern system designed to sustain the urban forest.
