South Dakota Museum of Geology Closed for Renovation

The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology’s Museum of Geology closed for renovations Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010. The installation of a new roof will require the specimens and exhibits to be covered to prevent damage. The renovations are anticipated to take up to six weeks, with reopening tentatively scheduled for November.

In the interim, small exhibit spaces and a gift shop kiosk will be available to the public in the newly-opened Paleontology Research Laboratory. Operating hours are scheduled for 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday

The mission of the Museum of Geology is to collect, conserve, curate, interpret, exhibit, and disseminate knowledge of paleontologically and geologically significant objects and serve as the repository for such objects from South Dakota and the Northern Great Plains, as well as from other areas that enhance our understanding of South Dakota paleontology and geology.
