Chrysanthemums at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Next month, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s glorious Chrysanthemums in the Courtyard display showcases single-stem Japanese style chrysanthemums, continuing a century-plus-old tradition of horticulture at the Gardner Museum, a year-round destination for enthusiasts of landscape and visual arts.

On view from mid-October through November, dozens of varieties and styles of mums—including the large single-stem blooms cultivated using a Japanese technique called Ogiku—fill the courtyard with a riot of autumnal colors. The chrysanthemum celebration extends beyond the courtyard as well, with mum-themed offerings at The Gardner Café and the Museum Shop, as well as a special evening event for museum patrons in honor of this new installation.
