The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) is to host a press conference at 2pm on Saturday, November 6, 2010, announcing a major skipjack restoration project that will be funded by $500,000 in philanthropic support and will be conducted in the public’s eye at the Museum’s boat yard over the next three years.
Those present will include Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s Board of Governors, staff, OysterFest visitors and relatives of the skipjack’s builder.
The announcement will be made from the Hooper Strait Lighthouse deck during OysterFest at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Michaels, MD.
CBMM has the largest collection of indigenous Chesapeake Bay watercraft in existence. Restoring and preserving these historic Chesapeake vessels is an important part of the Museum’s mission. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum has a working boat yard, including rail facilities to haul historic boats in and out of the waters.
