The Houston Museum of Decorative Arts will hold its annual holiday tea on Sunday, December 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. “The event will feature the usual delicious fare provided by our talented Houston cooks,” said Suzanne S. Caplenor, president of the museum’s board of trustees.
This year the tea has Carlinda Townsend as its chairman, Mrs. Caplenor announced. Carlinda is a popular kindergarten teacher at Belvoir Christian Academy and well-known at Brainerd Baptist Church as a skillful party-giver and avid collector of teacups and saucers, Mrs. Caplenor noted.
“Carlinda has helped with the holiday tea for a number of years and loaned us some of her beautiful cups and saucers to serve the tea in style,” Mrs. Caplenor commented.
There will be three “seatings,” the Houston president explained. When visitors make their reservations, which are required, they will be assigned a time either at 2, 3 or 4 p.m. It is expected that they will arrive at that time and spend their assigned hour enjoying the food and touring the museum. “We have to coordinate the guests’ times because of limited space,” Mrs. Caplenor stated.
Houston cookbooks have been reprinted and will be for sale at the tea, as they were at last year’s event. A total of 500 were sold from the first printing, so the museum has ordered more for the holiday season. “At $10 these books are a great buy and a well-received Christmas or hostess gift,” Mrs. Caplenor said.
A number of items from the cookbook will be served at the tea. The cost of the occasion is $15 for adults and $5 for children. Reservations may be made by calling the museum, (423) 267-7176.
“People are urged to make their reservations early,” Mrs. Caplenor said, “as the event has sold out and had a waiting list for the past several years.”
