National Museum of Surveying, Inc. Presents The Blue Planet

Here at the museum, we have a new member, the Blue Planet. To contrast with the cosmos that is Footprints, we have decided to counter with a more terrestrial movie.

The Blue Planet is about Earth and her most abundant, important resource, water, H2O, or the molecule that looks like Mickey Mouse. The focus of this majestic movie is on how water “shapes our planet and nearly every aspect of our lives (SOS).” Water allows life as we know it, and within the Cosmos, we are searching for another planet with water, as this might mean recognizable life. Thus, come on down to see the Blue Planet and see how water is the dynamic feature of our world. Then reenter the Cosmos through Footprints for a truly macrocosmic experience.

The National Museum of Surveying, Inc. is the only museum of its kind in the country. Located in Springfield, Illinois north of the Old State Capitol, it is the perfect addition to Springfield and its history. Inside the museum are exhibits of surveying tools from Lincoln’s time, an educational mini-theater and a 55 ft floor to ceiling mural depicting surveying from the Egyptian rope stretchers to Abraham Lincoln. In addition,The National Museum of Surveying, Inc. is home to the Science on a Sphere® (SOS). SOS is a room sized globe developed by NOAA (The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).
