Kunsthaus Zurich Presents Karl Moser Art and Architecture

Kunsthaus Zürich presents Karl Moser – Art and Architecture 17 December 2010 – 27 February 2011.

The Kunsthaus Zürich honours its first architect: Karl Moser (1860–1936), man of the world and one of the towering figures who remade modern architecture in the late 19th century and continued to advance it well into the 20th.

The exhibition focuses on Moser’s architectural work in its unusually close relationship with the visual arts, a complex symbiosis comprising the often exhaustive artistic appointment of his constructions, his collaboration with artists as partners on his projects, Moser’s own artistic ambitions and, last but not least, his buildings dedicated expressly to art.

The Kunsthaus Zürich joins forces with the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta), ETH Zurich, to observe a double anniversary: the show both constitutes the last event in the museum’s own centenary, and commemorates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Karl Moser, the ‘father of Swiss modernism’.
