The Denver Art Museum presents Marc Brandenburg: Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft. On view through February 20, 2011.
Marc Brandenburg’s first solo museum exhibition in the United States features about 30 drawings from private European collections. Brandenburg’s black-and-white drawings explore the tension between light and dark. The artist reverses positive and negative values to illuminate subtle details, resulting in a sense of drama and anticipation.
The exhibition’s subtitle—Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft, which translates to “German-American Friendship” in English—is both a comment on the relationship between politics and popular culture and a reference to the German punk band of the same name.
Marc Brandenburg: Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft is located in the works-on-paper gallery on level three of the Hamilton Building.
