The Tullie House Museum presents The Eagles Have Landed an exhibition on view 29th January 2011 – 13th March 2011.
In 69AD the Roman World acquired a new Emperor. His name was Vespasian. His face was on the Imperial coinage and Rome was on the march. His ambition was to complete the conquest of Britain, begun 26 years earlier by the Emperor Claudius. In addition the old alliances had broken down and the Britons needed to be taught a lesson. In 72AD a massive Roman army marched north.
This exhibition explores the impact of the arrival of this Roman army and the Imperial administration in the north of England. In addition, it is a trailer for the new Roman Frontier Gallery that will be opening in June at Tullie House.
